CJ,
Again, what could he have done to improve race relations?

This is my own opinion, but I think Obama should start conveying tough love on all sides.

Tell white people to actively reach out toward blacks and other minorities. It's not enough to merely preach "tolerance" and be done with it. And it's no excuse to just blame the other race for their own problems, cause that creates an "us vs. them" mentality.

Tell black people to stop glorifying the thugs and drugs culture. There's no way they're ever going to break the cycle of poverty if they continue forsaking the affirmative action opportunities that government is giving them left and right. And there's no reason to expect other races to stop prejudging them if they continue feeding into the statistics that create such a tragic self-fulfilling prophesy.

Tell Republicans to put forth some positive solutions toward racial reconciliation. It's easy to be the "Party of No," especially if their political ideals lean more toward libertarianism, but they need to realize that without equal opportunity without regard to both racial or social status, the libertarian ideal cannot be implemented.

Tell Democrats to stop playing the race card. Instead of helping to bridge the gap between races, playing the race card is as divisive as "either you are with us or you are against us."

Tell the media to stop thriving on the race conflict. It's obvious even to the uneducated how much the media is trying to hype up and fan the flames of racism, even as the media pretends that it is on the side of a color-blind society.

Now I don't think Obama should have to do everything that I suggested here. But I do expect Obama to exhibit a measure of political courage that is required to do what I suggested, even if he ends up doing something else. I don't see that at all, unfortunately.
