Rezoning for plastic melting plant moves to council next week Smiths Falls Record News 12 hours ago By Stacey Roy Smiths Falls town councillors expressed support to move a rezoning application forward to council next week that would allow for a plastics melting plant (Summit Energy Inc.) to set up in the former Hershey plant factory in Smiths Falls. Councillors gave verbal support for the zoning amendment during Monday's meeting, but added a Holding Zone on the lands until Summit Energy Inc. can prove the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change has given their approvals. Nicole McKernan, planner for the town said once this documentation is granted the town would lift the Holding Zone, at which time the public would once again have an opportunity to speak to the issue through a public consultation process. The issue will be coming to council Monday, Dec. 15 for formal approval. insideottawavalley.com
