Well, we can't do that because it may make them want to behead some of ours.

Oh, wait a minute.

I don't believe waterboarding should be used willy-nilly. And I think John McCain knows something about this business and I don't disrespect his views. But it may be difficult for him to be objective about it.

The Jack Bauer question does come up: If you have reason to believe you can save American lives by waterboarding someone do you do it? And the answer is, "Hell, yes. In a microsecond." It is a no-brainer.

The circumstances under which it is practiced would be very limited in any case. In the entire war on terror we apparently used the tactic sparingly and apparently to save lives. I'm down with it.

It is a pretty good alternative, even if you're the target, to just getting blown to bits by a drone.
