American people agree with the emotionality bolstered by the social movement folks. It basically gives them permission to vent and rage in self righteousness, even if it is the result of misinformation and fallacy.

When the whole picture is presented and considered in calm reason, most people with any kind of moral compass find themselves tending toward the conservative side of issues; which is why there is such a tremendous effort by the left to obfuscate.
