A black mob were the only people around to murder him. He was shot and then burned in the middle of a riot. With the police letting them riot and the national guard not on the scene.

I suspect he was murdered in retaliation for testimony that ran against the narrative. Why else? He was targeted, he didn't simply catch a wild bullet.
