It's illegal to hire people below the minimum wage and there are all sorts of employment laws which make it not worth hiring people due to the bureaucratic mess of stopping hiring them.

In places like Switzerland, Singapore and Japan, there is very low unemployment because laws don't force so many people into unemployment.

I prefer private enterprise lotuses [and have never eaten a lotus so am unsure they are good to eat]. Robots would harvest them for me. The robots would just run around freely, like possums in the forest do, but they would deliver the goods to me and they would eat cellulose from fallen branches or something. Other robots would make new robots. Better ones that would also kill mosquitoes by zapping them with lasers as they approach my open windows.

First kind of robot would be autocars so I don't have stupid humans blocking the road by dithering and generally being hopeless. Roads would flow freely, cars close together for reduced drag, at high speed. They would mostly be taxis which would be really cheap as they wouldn't have drivers and would have electric propulsion - and only 4 moving parts - the wheels [the wheels would be the motors] recharged with photovoltaics and batteries swapped to recharge [no point keeping the whole car in one place for hours during recharging].
