You don't understand ownership. You could have done anything you wanted. If you are pleading poverty as an excuse for doing a halfass job (from a green standpoint), then you shouldn't have bought the building at all.

Unless you're willing to extend the same argument to power plants burning fossil fuels ... they can just say, as you did, I can't afford to do anything else.
