Police say 19 year old Michael Devin Dempsey-Howell was sitting in a car with his mother when a black male opened fire on them. Howell was killed. Police charged Markey Jerail Evans, 33, with capitol murder and attempted murder. Evans has a serious criminal record that spans from 2001 to 2012. His arrests include burglary, breaking into a vehicle, receiving stolen property, and possession of narcotics.

Evans’ mother was able to get him to the hospital, but he died shortly after.

Bessemer, AL is a small town of only 27,456 people. It is 70% black.

If the races were reversed, this would a major national news story. Instead it is a “hush crime.”
