Tailings line spill from Copper Mountain Mine leads to water banBy Amy Judd Online News Producer Global News

VANCOUVER – Interior Health has issued a ‘Do Not Use’ water order for residents immediately downstream from Wolfe Creek due to a tailings line spill. The spill happened at Copper Mountain Mine, in the Similkameen, and ran into the Similkameen River.

Anyone who draws water from Wolfe Creek below the mine to the mouth of the Similkameen, Lorne Lake, and any residents drawing water from wells adjacent to Wolfe Creek are asked to stop immediately. The water is not even safe for bathing or recreation and should not be consumed, even when boiled.

Interior Health is currently awaiting further assessments and water sample data, and will advise residents as soon as more information is available.
