One can not fool mother nature (economics) As the Fed will not raise rates in a debt loaded world, deflation will cause real interest rates to become positive at which point de leveraging of debt will continue.Example- why would I be happy to pay even 3% on a non tax deductible mortgage if inflation is -1%.If I pay off that debt I am getting a 4% risk free tax free return.I feel housing and stocks have fully risen to their full value in a zero interest world (30% rise in asset value for each one percent real fall in rates). It is time to pay off debt no matter what
The Fed is pretty much at the limits of what it can do. The US should cut taxes on the non wealthy and go on a infrastructure spending spree. If the federal deficit is increased wisely (tax cuts to the middle class, via doing away with FICA, and investment in infrastructure) that would be a good thing. Until inflation shows itself I have no issue with deficit spending---only incompetent spending. Even in 10 years when inflation shows its self there is no such thing as the US going bankrupt
The Brazil play book should be reform until inflation drops, then massive infrastructure spending, then await the Chinese consumer stampede 5 years down the road
As TJ would say :We are blessed to live in such interesting times!
