Mike:
ViaSat is one that provides hardware for VSATs, as does Titan(Linkabit is the subsidiary soon to go public) as well as a huge number of satellite modem makers(Comstream, for example), satellite receiver card makers(Adaptec), etc. There are scads of networking consultants who will set up a satellite based network for companies employing VSATs and may also provide equipment(STMI is one). Gilat, Orion,GE Americom, Hughes Networks, PSNRY, etc. are satellite owners providing VSAT service also. Any time you see a dish on top of a Wal Mart or Walgreens, you are seeing a VSAT in action. I think even McDonalds uses one now to keep in touch with franchises. They can broadcast data, voice, video--you name it. It is a very efficient way to link widely dispersed branches or offices. The "virtual network" will be a huge boon for the satellite business. Orion should shine in that area(they already are, in fact). Another place to visit is NDS's site. This is the company providing some of the software for the IP Multicasting part of Cyberstar. It's at ndsworld.com. |
