From what I have read and heard directly from Loral about Globalstar gateways are that they are being reduced because service providers are saying they can get the same service without the additional gateways. Makes since to me that for the cost conscious, less money for the same service level is a prudent business move. Could be a story behind the story. I will allow those more ambitious to search that out.

Actuall, refer to Valueman's comments at post 162 on the G* thread. I believe he was actually at the Loral investors conference and heard first-hand the reasoning behind less gateways. Still seems a good concept to me, but the market will tell.

As far as Globalstar being a slam dunk, I don't think it is a lay-up yet. Still got to get 42 satcoms up in 98 for service to begin in 1999. I do believe it possesses a very good risk/reward profile, as does Iridium.
