I believe we only used waterboarding (the only part of enhanced interrogation people seem to care about) on a small handful of terrorists and Bush had it ended after 1986. So we did back away after a few tiny steps over whatever line people are saying existed. What the left wants is Bush and Cheney condemned as international war criminals and punished before the world. They want to pretend the Bush administration had a policy of wholesale torture for no reason.

I don't think we need to apologize for anything.

All we need to do is realize just how close we are to stepping over the line, then quietly back away.

I think the fuss being made over this endangers us. If we do ever find that a group has smuggled a WMD into the country and thousands or more lives are endangered, future security forces will be afraid to do all they need to do in order to protect the country.
