Jim, It is hell to watch. I never was laid off but I saw many many many of my friends hit the street. It is pure pain.

Two companies I was with essentially closed up. One offered me a transfer to another city - but I found another job before we had to move. A real small company I worked for was going down the tubes - the president told me he would keep me on the pay roll but I should look for a job - which I found rather quickly. None the less - I never was without a pay check. I cannot imagine the fear.

IMO it is pure crap to make the announcement the week before Christmas.
