"when they can't pretend they're good," They don't pretend. "they say something changed and now they aren't good anymore. Their audacity is amazing." They demonstrate that something changed. They would only be audacious if they kept using them after that change happened. When they determine what that something(s) is, their knowledge will be amazing.
