Mendocino FarmHack: Fuel Farming for the 21st Century

The theory behind FarmHack is to create "an Open Source Community for Resilient Agriculture," and we believe that an essential step towards community resiliency is to evaluate and transform our energy footprint. Measure S put us ahead of the crowd in regaining local sovereignty, but we must take the next steps in ensuring that our fuel comes to us sustainably and responsibly, and preferably locally.

Mendocino County will host its first FarmHack at the Little Lake Grange and Ridgewood Ranch in Willits, CA this December 6-7. The theme is Fuel Farming For the 21st Century and we hope that this open source forum will bring forward innovations, ideas, and solutions applicable to our contexts as farmers, business owners and citizens.

Organized by the Mendocino Alcohol Fuel Group, the Grange Farm School, and the Greenhorns, this weekend long symposium will bring together business owners, engineers and mechanics, farmers and homescale producers to explore the possibilities of ethanol production and use.

A series of lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and demonstrations will provide a comprehensive knowledge of this renewable, sustainable fuel source with an emphasis on how we as a community can collaborate and reduce our waste stream and our petroleum addiction.

Tour the 300 gallon Ridgewood Ranch still, learn about home scale distillation, explore the many options for feed stocks and more!
