Concur with both a) and b).

I guess we will have to disagree on what constitutes torture and the following -

"we're not facing a daily slaughter of American citizens on American soil."

In round numbers we lost -

3,000 in NYC,
4,425 KIA in Iraq.
3,500 in Afghanistan.

Our wounded in OEF/OIF are about 9x the KIAs. Our enemies lost many more.

When our enemies launch a significant attack on us, we do not wait around for them to attack us again.
