Naked shorting of BB stock by MM and others happens all the time. legal or illegal it doesn't matter. Money talks. Sometimes a stock is targeted for shorting to institute a terminal short where the position never has to be covered when the company goes under. From what I understand taxes don't have to be paid either, because the position is never closed out. This is big money at work here. The only way to combat this threat to a company is to have the backing of that company, it is very difficult to have the capitalization of a group of investors work against the shorters as its usually too small and unorganized. Calling for certs is a good way to begin the fight IMO.
