The Yahoo case, spotted in August, was this week detailed by British-born security company Bromium, which also uncovered recent ‘malvertising’ attacks delivered via Dictionary.com and Answers.com. Any user who visited a page on Yahoo and was running a vulnerable version of Java would have been compromised by a backdoor, according to the firm. Again, that malware could have been used to upload more rogue software to the target machine.
