If so -- and I understand there are a large number of people who believe it was -- it was relatively small when compared, for example, with JFK/LBJ's Vietnam blunder, yet both of those presidents are remembered favorably by many today. And LBJ also gave us the greatest threat to the country's continued existence, Medicare and Medicaid.

But at the same time LBJ made the civil rights legislation happen, for which he'll always be favorably remembered, just as Bush having kept America safe and controlled the AIDS epidemic in Africa will be his great accomplishments, historically speaking. Saving the economy from the collapse it would have been due the Democrat-inspired housing crisis will be another.
