Paul, Ali, et al., On WSJ-online this a.m. is a story about AT&T's board meeting today. Story mentions their options for quickly (by end of 1999) getting "direct" connections to as many as 50 million of their 90 million long distance customers. There was talk of need for "massive" investments to achieve this goal, but that none of the acquisition possibilities (including leading contender Teleport) was "immanent". Relevant to WCII was the following statement, repeated here as a direct quotation from the article:
"AT&T is also holding discussions with wireless player WinStar Communications and a regional carrier in the Midwest, McLeodUSA Inc., two companies that could give quick access to local customers, inluding high-spending businesses." Best to all, Bill.
