You know, it is repeated constantly and still people do it. Not just a little bit.

It is astounding when you consider that drugs are prescribed based on these arbitrary relationships in an effort to reduce some arbitrary number that may or may not have any real effect on the underlying causes, or the level of statistical abuse applied to economics in an effort to mislead people.

Yet, every person who has ever sat through the mind-numbing math of a graduate econometrics course has heard the warning -- "correlation does not show causation -- and don't you forget it".

Yet it is rampant today.
