America could have easily invested the surplus generated by the Social Security and Medicare taxes in infrastructure projects which generated fee income, rather than spending the surplus on major income tax rate cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

The sad part is the cut in income tax rates actually reduced the rate of economic growth, just as most economists predicted it would. With lower tax rates people don't have to work as hard, or as long, to realize their desired level of income.

Ronald Reagan's economic policies were simply catastrophic. We need to learn from this - never again.
