Yes, the first week's numbers stick, and you continue to get points based on them for the next three weeks.
After week 1, you get to create brand new rankings based on whatever teams remain. These rankings are totally separate from whatever you created in week 1, and you get points for these as well. The difference is, after week 1, whatever rankings you create are tossed out after that week is over. This means for week 3, you get points for those new rankings plus what you assigned in week 1, but week 2 rankings are disregarded. For week 4 (Super Bowl), you get points for picking the winner plus what you assigned in week 1, but weeks 2 and 3 rankings are disregarded.
Bottom line: you forever get points for Week 1 rankings that stay set in stone. All other rankings only give you these extra points for the week they represent, then these rankings are disregarded.
