To add some on topic conversation... they put the modest house (on Monterey Peninsula walking distance to Pebble, Spyglass, etc.) back on the market when some friends who live out of the country wanted to vacation in the US... and they were not happy with how it was treated, probably lost money on it... I've told people who would listen that I hold significant assets in REIT funds (and recommend one in my newsletter) as others are paid to take care of this AND I get great diversification. My REITs made over 30% last year so it worked well..... with so much student debt... REITs could be good for a long time as so many can't afford to buy homes and with the housing crash in recent memory, many may never want to own seeing what happened to their parents.
