The state has had an interest in wind for about four and a half decades. There at least used to be an experimental windmill at the western tip of Galveston Island since the early 1970s. Don't know its status post-Ike, but... The only thing restricting the growth of wind power in the state is the power lines in the areas where conditions are best for it. And that is being addressed. It doesn't surprise me but most people outside of TX would be surprised. Its not the kind of image TX presents to the country; in fact, TX looks to be all in on oil and natural gas. And yet, the state is heavily into renewable energy.
