It's already been done in many cities where the courts ruled that written tests for policemen and firemen were too hard for certain groups to pass and had resulted in "disparate impact." Consequently, the test scores were lowered or completely waived to achieve the "socially-desirable" results.

Year after year, the United States defines deviancy down to the point that it now looks very little like the United States and very much like the third world in most areas.

Interestingly, the phrase defining deviancy down was originally used by Democratic Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan in 1993. It was based on Emile Durkheim's theory in which he proposed that there is a limit to the bad behavior that a society can tolerate before it has to start lowering its standards. In 1993, Moynihan applied the term to the American decline that had eroded families and increased crime.

The irony is that the late senator was a member of the party of leftists, which directly promoted and proudly produced the social disease and degradation that he feared.

The nation's deplorable state has now become the new normal. The new normal in our society is associated with extremely low standards and double-standards. Increasingly, there are also absolutely no standards.

I cannot imagine how this can or will end well.
