The Latest to Defect From Boehner: Cantor’s Replacement

Speaker John A. Boehner and former Representative Eric Cantor occasionally had their differences, but Mr. Cantor’s replacement in the House, Dave Brat, has taken his opposition to a new level.

“While I like Speaker Boehner personally, he will not have my support for speaker,” Mr. Brat wrote in an op-ed article on Breitbart.com on Sunday, lamenting that “our party’s leadership has strayed from its own principles of free market, limited government, constitutional conservatism.”

During his campaign in Virginia, Mr. Brat told The Hill that he would back Mr. Boehner for speaker.

And while we on First Draft have noted that it is unlikely that there will be a new speaker in the 114th Congress, the public defections from the right flank of Mr. Boehner continue to grow.
