Ah, but if they have any sense, they've locked in a price (within the range of a collar) and are only pushing the tax event, not the risk, to next year.

Now, Al., sounds like you might know something about securites laws. If so, answer me these:

Is it correct that insiders must file when they buy a collar? How long do they have to file? Would it appear like any sale or would it not appear at all in the Form 4 and/or Rule 144 info?

Precisely who would be precluded from trading right now as you suggest? Officers and Directors? How is the period determined?
