That was the only game I got to see Koufax pitch live, but I always watched the Cubs on WGN and I watched him whenever he pitched against the Cubs on TV.

I still remember his curveball. They had cameras in center field so you could see the pitch going in and it was just incredible.

I have another memory of baseball. It was 1969 and I asked a girl to the game and I got the worst seats I ever got. We were in the bleachers on the first base side.

The Cubs were in first place by about 9 games at the time. They were playing the Pirates and they were ahead early I think.

The Pirates came back and the girl I was with was bored and made me aware of it. The Cubs proceeded to lose. That was the FIRST time I had been at a Cubs game and they lost. They were crap previously every time I saw them but they had won every time. Even against Koufax. This time when they are leading the league and seem a sure thing to win the pennant for the first time since 1945 they LOSE. When I take the girl home she tells me she's in love with this community college professor. I recognize the guy's name and I say isn't that the guy who seems to date a lot of students and film's their trists? She says yes, but that's just a foible the guy has. She lets me feel her up though so it's not a total loss. And for those of you thinking this is just an ugly guy talking about an ugly girl....that girl was "beautiful" by anybody's definition.

So, then the Cubs go on to let the Mets steal their pennant and have never won one since. ALL because of THAT date....
