During the day today, I noticed that the relative Bid/Ask numbers were 50x10, and that at the same time the Bid-Ask spread was down to 1/16th.
If memory serves, these numbers are both rather unusual. Can you ... or anyone ... help me interpret what they actually are telling us about the instantaneous dynamics of the market at that time? Many more buyers than sellers (5:1)? Some competition between MM's such that they lowered the spread? Why would they do that -- afraid of being stuck one way or teh other if the stock makes a big move?

Thanks in advance.

JSb.
