You have it back to front ElM. I have never been much interested in the past. I tried to get last in the class in history at school when it was compulsory and was amazed at how difficult that was. I answered a few questions so that it didn't look totally silly and got about 23rd out of 33. Miss Aldridge, our teacher was very nice but I did not care about the kings and queens of England and told her so. The next year the Hungarian thug teaching history threatened to cane me if I didn't get in the top ten. School taught me many useful things, such as about authoritarian thugs, ignorant and stupid people, arrogant people, class conscious people, being imprisoned and many such useful things.

To me the good life is in the future. Our mission in life is to create it. <You have a colonized mind. (I am not trying to offend you personally)
Colonized mind is these folks that look back to some places and they think: there is where the good stuff is
> Stop living in the past ElM. Hating on the Anglophones and the British Empire is like moaning about the Roman and Egyptian empires. The British Empire is long gone. Virtuous Victorian Values were not limited to then. You can find them still, lurking around the world in bits and pieces. Look at Hong Kong for example which manifests many such as how to handle the street protests about democracy. Look at the inventiveness in Silicon Valley. The industrial revolution in China. Foxconn. Qualcomm.

Look to the future ElM. Stop wallowing in the past. Your colonized mind has you stuck. No offence intended. Yes, Portugal had some good days, but that was hundreds of years ago. You can use english. Lucky for you. Be grateful for those Virtuous Victorian Values.
