Bill Maher: Liberal Failure to Confront Islam Turning America Into a ‘Pussy Nation’

Left-wing comedian Bill Maher ripped into his own liberal “tribe” in the wake of Wednesday’s Islamist massacre in Paris, accusing them of turning America into a “pussy nation” through their refusal to highlight Islam’s illiberalism.

Maher appeared Wednesday night on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the slaughter, which saw twelve Parisians killed in a revenge attack on satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo after it ran cartoons mocking the Islamic prophet Mohammed.

“We have to not avoid who did this,” Maher began. “Who did this, Jimmy?”

“Well, we presume –” Kimmel said uncomfortably.

“No, it’s not a presume!” Maher said. “It’s Muslim terrorists. This happens way too frequently. It’s like Groundhog Day, except if the groundhog kept getting his head cut off.”

The comedian asked his fellow liberals to “turn to the truth” regarding Islam. “To be a liberal, you have to stand up for liberal principles,” he said. “It’s not my fault that the part of the world that is most against liberal principles is the Muslim part of the world.”

Maher made the connection between the attack on Charlie Hebdo and the North Korean regime’s cyber-attack on Sony over the film The Interview, with Kimmel saying how disappointed he was in the response of those who said Hollywood should stop making movies satirizing sensitive regimes.

“Pussy nation,” Maher responded simply. “We have to stop saying, when something like this that happens in Paris today we have to stop saying, ‘Well, we should not insult a great religion’ . . . We should insult them. And we should be able to insult whatever we want. That is what free speech is like.”
