1/9/15 Contest update
There was no denying man-made disruptive climate change on Wall Street this week! Down -461 Dow degrees Monday & Tuesday and up 546 Dow degrees on Wednesday & Thursday. But Friday saw another chill wind return, cooling things off by -170 Dow degrees and the week ended with a -95.62 drop in Dow degrees.
In contrast, as was the case in 2014, the biotech micro-climate began the year with a bit of a heat wave. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 7.88% YTD and the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 3.16% YTD. Tracking the broader market, however, the Nasdaq Composite Index was down -.68%.
First week bragging rights go to the 2012 Contest winner, GENE’s portfolio! Boosted by a 20% allocation to the year’s top portfolio stock, ALCLS.PA, it’s up 28.02% YTD. Second place honors go to MCBIO’s portfolio, up 24.33% YTD, with DONS portfolio, up 20.84% YTD, in third place.
At Friday's close, 47 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with, remarkably, 41 of the 51 beating the NBI. And the 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 6.80%
