There are different colors visible only on the blown up chart.

But you have a point, there are two curves, but they are spliced together so most people will think they're one.

The proxy chart doesn't continue up to the present day. Instead different data is stuck in for the recent past. The only reason to do that is if the proxy data wouldn't give the "right" hockey stick curve if left in.
