willing to make less profit on the disks.

I think I've demonstrated that IOM's profit is likely to be substantially more than the "smaller" profit that Nomyidea is willing to take, again assuming they actually sell any disks--since I believe this to be the case, it makes sense to invest in IOM since they will be making the most off the substantial number of disks that need to produced and sold for all those Zip users, and it also makes sense to ignore Nomyidea, since they pose no credible threat to either IOM's marketshare or future profits.
