Rap, now I prefer Macrium because it gives you a choice when making a rescue CD: either based on Windows PE or Linux. I chose Windows PE. It does not prompt you to insert a blank CD, so insert it before proceeding [otherwise it churns forever without error message]. Burning the CD took a few minutes. Optionally you can also make an iso file

Then, with the rescue CD still loaded, I restarted the computer and the Gateway logo appeared followed by a notice to hit any key to boot from CD. [no need to get into BIOS!]
Since the USB external drive was powered on, the rescue software automatically found the Macrium image file. I just told it to verify the image. Image was ok.

Since the rescue software found the image and verified it, I think it will also find it when doing a recovery.
