Press Release : United States Basketball League Retains Services of Rudy LaRusso to Act as Expansion Coordinator for USBL's Pacific Coast Division
MILFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 1997--The United States Basketball League (OTCBB: USBL - news) announced today that it has retained the services of Rudy LaRusso to act as Expansion Coordinator for the USBL's Pacific Coast Division, which is set to begin play in 1999.
LaRusso brings tremendous experience to the position, as he has been involved with the sport of basketball for over 40 years, including a 10-year career in the NBA. Rudy played eight seasons as a Laker and two seasons as a Warrior. In those ten years, LaRusso was named to the All-Star team on five different occasions. LaRusso currently resides in California and will assist the USBL in the establishment of the division.
In August the USBL announced that it would launch a Pacific Coast Division for the 1999 season. The ten-team division would allow the USBL to go nationwide for the first time since the establishment of the USBL in 1985. Since the inception of ''The League of Opportunity'' in 1985, there have been 113 USBL Alumni to go and play in the NBA. Among the many Alumni are Tyrone ''Muggsy'' Bogues, Chris Childs, Mario Elie, Avery Johnson, Anthony Mason, Charlie Ward and John ''Hot Rod'' Williams.
Competing in the summer, the USBL presently has 12 teams in the east and southeast U.S. Plans call for expansion of up to 40 teams in new divisions in the next five years.
