To state the obvious and the much-repeated: When long term interest rates rise to 6% on U. S. government debt, the interest payments will be more than the total income from tax revenues. As soon as the rest of the world realizes that debts are being paid in worthless I. O. U. paper (which as we all know has already been happening for some time) there will have to be some form of debt repudiation. Might be comparable to what France has done a couple of times, when it was the greatest European power.
