Winner, I seem to remember that the Nifty-Fifty crashed and burned in that bear market too; they merely held out longer than everything else. Go back and look at what happened to Polaroid and Xerox, two of the 'Nifty-Fifty'; it wasn't pretty. I don't know that there was a good place to hide in '73-'74, except maybe in cash. People get caught in margin calls and have to dump good stocks along with weak ones. It creates a vicious cycle. Mamis is no protege of Garzarelli, if anything he has been around a lot longer than she has. Look, I'd just as soon not go through a bear market because I prefer to buy good companies and hang on, but you can sure lose a lot of capital by doing so. Mamis is not a wild-man like Granville was, and I wouldn't dismiss him lightly. But on the bright side, Iomega pulled itself up 5% today; but it's likely in preperation for leaping off another cliff.
