Ratan, you trade the s&p, but you're not trading the stocks? You might want to reconsider your strategy. I rarely lose much on stocks. Why? Because I sell as soon as they go against me. Also, after they pop, its good to sell. When they fall and everyone is panicing, that's when you buy. You sell on good news AND when the stock starts to show some weakness. However, it is most important to buy on a panic day, etc. The small-caps are great to buy on panic days because they go way lower than they should.
KELL is now $ 21.25b $ 21.50 (bought yesterday? for $ 21) MDCO is now $ 21.63b $ 21.94a (ave cost 19.00. bought last wk) SLAM is now $ 13.81b $ 14.00a (bought this morn $ 13.31)
I'm in and out. I'll wait for another great company to have a bad day an fill in the void. Of course, this requires a lot of company research which I like doing. It also requires a risk-taking aptitude, which you obviously have.
I just sold almost 1/2 of my SLAM @ $ 13.84. I only meant to sell 1/4 of it, but I didn't realize my first order was filled. I think it will be $ 15+ soon, but who knows. I may sell the remainder at anytime. I made good money fast so I'm lessening my positon.
I mention trading stocks to you because I've actually made more money on stocks than futures. It also seems easier and less risky to me, though you can make lots of money on futures, too. However, it requires taking very, very large risks at just the right moment. I do believe there are times for that. Last week had one of those days but I didn't take advantage of it. I'm still learning so I didn't want to blow it on one shot (one of the most common mistakes is taking too big a gamble at the EXACTLY the right time).
I guess my bias has been to stocks becasue that is what I seem to be best at, though as I said, my futures trading seems to have turned to the point where I'm making good money on that, too. As my futures broker would say, "whatever makes you money . . . that's what you should do. Do what you're good at".
