Usama Fayyad Joins InvenSense, Inc. Board of Directors

San Jose, California, January 16, 2015 - InvenSense, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent sensor system on chip (SoC) for Motion and Sound, announced the appointment of Usama M. Fayyad to its board of directors. The election of Mr. Fayyad increases the size of InvenSense's board to nine members.

"Usama's experience in business applications related to data mining, data science and cloud strategy across multiple industries will immediately provide valuable insights to our executive and development teams," said Behrooz Abdi, President and Chief Executive Officer of InvenSense. "His expertise in data strategy, enabling enterprises to develop and realize Big Data solutions will be a great asset to InvenSense and we look forward to working with him."

The Internet of Things continues to collect data from a myriad of sensors; that data will need to be organized, classified and learned from to make automated decisions," said Mr. Fayyad. Mr. Fayyad currently serves as Chief Data Officer and Managing Director at Barclays, a position he has held since 2013. Prior to joining Barclays, Mr. Fayyad served as Chairman/CTO of ChoozOn Corporation from 2011 to 2013, a personalized mobile vertical search engine. He also was founder and Executive Chairman of Oasis500 - the largest tech startup accelerator and seed investment fund in the Middle East from 2010 to 2013. Mr. Fayyad was the first ever Chief Data Officer (CDO) when Yahoo! acquired his second startup, DMX Group, appointing him onto its senior executive team in 2004. In 2000 he left his position at Microsoft Corporation, where he led the data mining research and product teams to co-found his first startup: DigiMine (Audience Science) as Chairman and CEO. Prior to Microsoft, he was at NASA'sJet Propulsion Lab where he led the automated analysis of remote sensing and Big Data in science applications. Mr. Fayyad holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also holds M.S.E. (CSE) and M.Sc. (Mathematics) degrees, in addition to B.S.E.'s in both Electrical and Computer Engineering. Mr. Fayyad is considered one of the founders of the field of Data Mining; is a Fellow of the ACM and AAAI, and a named inventor on over 30 patents.
