Re: Distressed Bonds

I have been looking at this area for possible investments now that I can get quotes from both Schwab & Ameritrade. I also use the FINRA data base to view prices which makes it easier to find possible candidate companies. ( Here is a link to the FINRA database where I watch the MHR 2020 Bonds - you can use this link to search other companies too)

The only other distressed Bond I bought was in late 2012
goo.gl
Supervalue 5/2016 8% $1,000 Par Bonds

If you search this thread it will show my entry point, amount I paid and updates.

Long story short, SVU called 60% of these bonds that I paid $0.74/100 and paid $109/100. I still hold the other 40% and collect the 8% coupon.

In the past, checking for distressed debt was difficult and involved calling the Schwab bond desk. Now that most all the quotes are on-line, you can scan potential candidate stocks to see if they even have debt and if it is selling at/near a distressed price.
