To be fair Bush JR got called a monkey a lot. Heck, it was practically a meme. That being said I was never comfortable with it because of its racist origins. Which is funny that I feel that way since we all have so much in common apes and monkey. If someone called me an ape/monkey, I would be like so, duh, what is your point, isn't that obvious? Anyhow I suppose that I agree that it should be avoided as being used as an insult in all cases because of the ties to racists. The KKK for one was notorious for using this comparison. It is strange/unfortunate/poor reflection on our society though that people seemed OK for using this comparison with Bush JR, but are horrified when the same comparison is used with Obama. There seems to be no way to balance racism...swing to far one way or too far the other...so much baggage that we have to carry around and deal with. sigh
