I live in one of four states with the slowest broadband in the country. I live 10 miles from the nearest town, in the middle of nowhere. Under my current contract I get 20mbps down any time, day or night. 2mbps up, which I pay a premium for ($64/month, total). One connection serves my home and my office, and during the day we commonly have four or five workstations running on it, just fine.

If for any reason my cable goes down, which it does out here sometimes, I get 12.5mbps down on my cellphone and 1.5mbps up.

It is plenty. It would be great to have gigabit Internet but it would also be stupid. Because few people need it to accomplish whatever they're wanting to do. And they can afford to pay for it.

And it stupid to spend the money when even more wireless accessibility is on the horizon.
