(Bloomberg) -- Consumer confidence in the U.S. increased this month as declining unemployment and lower fuel costs lifted Americans’ outlooks.

The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index rose to 102.9 from a revised December reading of 93.1, the New York-based private research group said today. The latest figure was higher than the 95.5 median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 77 economists.
