Lasertechnics Unit Receives Acceptance of Third U.S. Immigration
Installation for Fraud-Resistant Cards
CARROLLTON, Texas, Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Lasertechnics, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: LASX - news) Sandia Imaging
Systems, Inc., a majority owned subsidiary, said the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) formally accepted
the third site for the decentralized issuance of Employment Authorization Documents, Alien Resident Cards (Green Card),
and Border Crossing Cards (BCC).
Located in St. Albans, VT, the site is the first in the INS to issue Green and Border Crossing cards utilizing optical card
technology.
The optical cards are printed by Sandia printers that produce multiple security features encoded within each card that make
it virtually fraud- resistant.
The two previously installed sites, Laguna, Calif. and Lincoln, Neb., will be retrofitted to add the optical Green and Border
Crossing card capability in the first quarter of 1998.
Sandia was granted the contract in 1995 and over its three year life expects to produce more than 10 million ID cards as
additional sites and applications are implemented with the INS.
Sandia's high quality printers utilize a dye-sublimation process to imprint both sides of a durable, wallet-sized plastic card
with photo-quality, full color, digitized images; photographs; fingerprints; magnetic stripe encoding; holograms; and a variety
of other security features to prevent counterfeiting and fraud.
