And what is the result of the government not meddling in economic fine tuning? Fantastic improvement. Could something have been done to make the improvement better? Maybe - but at what cost. What might the downside(s) have been?

You know that I am an Obama supporter, however lukewarm in many ways. But I wouldn't use the words "Fantastic improvement" to describe the economy of the past six years. The thing about counter-factuals is that you can frame the question you ask in various different ways. For example, instead of asking "What might the downside(s) have been"" one could ask, "What might the upside have been?"

You just see bigger deficits if Krugman's and Stiglitz's preference for more Federal money to be put into the economy back in '09-'10, but if the economy had gotten stronger more quickly, then more government receipts might have made the deficit shrink faster than it has, and led to more and larger paychecks for people sooner than it has.
