Income tax is about the only progressive tax. Which is why there is a push to replace income taxes with sales taxes.

Right, so imposing more regressive taxation only hurts the poorest the most. In Birmingham AL, one of the reddest of red states, one pays a 9% food tax. A shopping trip of $200, not atypical for a family of four, will cost mom and dad $18 additional in tax.
