You might find this latest research interesting. The "labor participation rate" for the American economy is now back to it's modern (50 year) historical average, but one significant factor underlying it's 'recent' (last eight years or so...) much commented about decline (from the 'eighties and 'nineties high water mark) has been the advancement into retirement, the normal aging out of the work force, of the Baby Boomers - a big influence on the statistics of course because they comprise nearly 40% of the adult population.

But, this *other* influence on the labor participation rate statistics is just beginning to become a subject of comments:


Chilled-out rich teens are a big part of the drop in the American labor force
